Are you a parent or carer?

Connexions is a free service providing information, advice, guidance and support to all 13-19 year olds.*

We live in a world that constantly tells us how we should live, look and behave. It can be bewildering – sometimes too little choice and oddly, sometimes too much. Making decisions in a fast moving world with so much uncertainty can lead to regrets later in life. We’ve all said it: “If only I knew then what I know now”. For teenagers, who seem to have to grow up faster now than ever before, it can be doubly confusing. So as well as family support, it’s important that there is someone independent and impartial they can turn to now and again for help and advice.

The Connexions Service is provided through a team of Personal Advisers. Personal Advisers work closely with schools, colleges, employers and other specialists such as social, youth and health workers, teenage pregnancy units and youth offending teams. They offer a single point of contact for young people so they don’t get lost in a maze of different agencies. Whilst many young people simply need a bit of unbiased guidance about which subjects to choose or the options open to them when they reach sixteen, others need much more support to enable them to make sense of what’s happening in their lives, for example, drugs, substance misuse, pregnancy, depression or homelessness to name a few.

Connexions can help your teenager and you, as their parent or carer, to deal with all these problems and more; in fact, almost anything young people may face as they progress through their teenage years to become the active citizens of tomorrow.

*Up to age 25 in the case of young people with special needs.
